Water and Soil
Our Water Source
Rain and snow falling on the high ridge of Jebel Barouk to the west provide water for the wetland. Most rain falls between December and March, soaking quickly through layers of limestone in the mountains and emerging as springs in the valley floor. The water is particularly pure, as it has not been polluted by agricultural fertilizers.
By using water from wetlands for irrigation, we can help to conserve these important ecosystems by reducing the need for other sources of water, such as groundwater or rivers. This can help to prevent over-extraction of water resources and the resulting negative impacts on the environment.
By incorporating wetland water into sustainable farming practices, farmers can support the conservation of these critical ecosystems and their important ecological functions.
Our irrigation system
Drip irrigation is particularly important in sustainable farming next to a wetland because it can help reduce the potential for nutrient and chemical runoff into the wetland. By delivering water and nutrients directly to the roots of plants, drip irrigation minimizes water loss and prevents excess water and nutrients from running off into the wetland ecosystem. This helps to preserve the natural balance of the wetland and protect its delicate ecosystem, while promoting efficient resource use and supporting a more sustainable approach to farming.
